Coel and Cilla are young enough to survive the gas, but survival does not hand them a better world. An accident at an Alaskan defence plant has left everyone over twenty-five facing rapid ageing and death. The couple leave Dallas and travel towards a commune in New Mexico, meeting other young survivors along the way. Freedom from the older generation soon looks less straightforward: the travellers encounter people their own age rebuilding the same habits of control and prejudice. By the time they reach the pueblo, finding a place to live and defending it have become different problems.
Director
Roger Corman
Top billing cast
Robert Corff; Elaine Giftos; Bud Cort; Ben Vereen; Cindy Williams
The long title was not the one used throughout production. AFI records Arrowfeather as the working title and identifies New Mexico as the location for exterior filming. Roger Corman directed; George Armitage wrote the screenplay and is also listed as a producer alongside Corman. The catalogue names Robert Corff, Elaine Giftos and Bud Cort among the cast. It classifies the 1970 release as a comedy and gives a running time of 79 minutes. The gas catastrophe supplies the science-fiction premise, while the journey turns it into a satire about the society left behind.
