Buddies Yify

HistoryDramaRomance

Storyline

David can leave the hospital after a visit; Robert cannot. Their friendship begins with a volunteer assignment, sending David Bennett to keep Robert Willow company as he lives with AIDS. David comes from a supportive family and has a settled relationship. Robert is alone in his hospital room, outspoken about subjects his visitor would rather avoid. An argument about a gay parade exposes the gap between them: David questions the event, while Robert sees a rare occasion when gay people cannot be ignored. The visits give David more than someone to help. They make him confront a crisis he has been able to keep at a distance.

Trivia

David Schachter and Geoff Edholm play David and Robert respectively. Arthur J. Bressan Jr directed Buddies, released in 1985. A much later date sometimes appears beside the title: 6 December 2019 was its UK theatrical rerelease through Peccadillo Pictures, as documented by the BFI. That release followed a 2K restoration. The BFI also describes how the film limits the presence of its supporting characters. Some are voices on a telephone; others appear away from Robert’s room or turn their backs to the camera. The two men remain the focus.
