Such Good Friends Trivia

  1. The original novel written by Lois Gould had a more serious tone compared to the film adaptation, lacking many of the witty and satirical lines that made it into the movie. Recognizing the satirical potential of the premise, Otto Preminger chose to shape the story in that direction.

  2. In a scene where Ken Howard shows Dyan Cannon a nude photo he supposedly took of her, the face belongs to Cannon, but the body belongs to someone else. Due to her discomfort with doing a nude scene, especially under the direction of Otto Preminger, Cannon opted for this creative solution.

  3. Screenwriter "Esther Dale" was actually a pseudonym used by Elaine May. May decided not to be credited under her real name as she wasn't directing the film. However, she was annoyed when director Otto Preminger revealed her true identity during the film's promotion, despite praising her work.

  4. It is rumored that novelist and screenwriter Joan Didion made contributions to the screenplay, which was officially credited to Esther Dale (Elaine May's pseudonym). However, Didion's involvement in the writing remains uncredited.

  5. To familiarize his writers, Joan Didion and John Gregory Dunne, with the desired approach for the film, Otto Preminger arranged a screening of "Diary of a Mad Housewife" (1970) at a Paramount screening room. Accompanied by his son Erik Preminger and wife Hope, this viewing helped set the tone for their work on the project.
