The Doctor And The Devils Yify

Storyline:   "The Doctor and the Devils" is a 1985 period drama-horror film directed by Freddie Francis. Loosely based on the true story of the notorious Burke and Hare murders, the film takes place in 19th-century England and explores the macabre world of grave-robbing and medical experimentation. The story centers around Dr. Thomas Rock (played by Timothy Dalton), a renowned anatomist and surgeon who is dedicated to advancing medical knowledge through dissection and study. However, his supply of cadavers for scientific research becomes increasingly scarce, and he is driven to desperate measures. Dr. Rock enters into a dangerous alliance with two grave robbers, Fallon (played by Jonathan Pryce) and Broom (played by Stephen Rea), who supply him with fresh corpses stolen from local cemeteries. The duo, driven by their own ambitions and personal demons, becomes entangled in a series of gruesome murders to fulfill the doctor's insatiable demand for bodies.

As the murders continue, suspicions arise within the community, leading to a tense cat-and-mouse game between the doctor, the grave robbers, and the authorities who are determined to uncover the truth. "The Doctor and the Devils" explores the ethical and moral implications of medical advancement and the lengths individuals will go to achieve their goals. It delves into the dark underbelly of society, where science and greed collide, and questions the boundaries of morality in the pursuit of knowledge. With its atmospheric setting, haunting visuals, and powerful performances, the film presents a chilling tale of horror and moral ambiguity, drawing upon historical events to create a thought-provoking narrative that lingers in the realm of moral grayness.

However, it wasn't until the mid-1960s that director Nicholas Ray took an interest in it, resulting in an elaborate rewrite that relocated the story from Scotland to Vienna. Ray initially announced his intention to shoot the film in Belgrade, with Maximilian Schell and Susannah York, but the production was ultimately abandoned, causing the project to remain inactive for another two decades.
  2. This film holds the world record for the longest delay between the completion of its script and the actual production, spanning an impressive thirty-two years.
  3. The character of Dr. Thomas Rock in the movie is based on the real-life Dr. Robert Knox. In the film, Dr. Rock is portrayed by Timothy Dalton. In reality, Dr. Knox's association with the infamous Burke and Hare murders had a detrimental effect on his reputation and ultimately ruined his career.
  4. Director Freddie Francis was dismayed to discover that producer Mel Brooks initially had no intention of using any of Dylan Thomas' original screenplay. Instead, Brooks wanted to create another horror movie centered around the Burke and Hare story. However, Francis insisted on returning to the Thomas script as much as possible, albeit with some revisions by Ronald Harwood.
  5. The Burke and Hare murders, which served as the basis for this movie, were indeed grounded in reality, making it a true story. However, in this film, the characters inspired by Burke and Hare are named Robert Fallon and Timothy Broom. The infamous Burke and Hare murders are also known as the West Port murders, and the total number of deaths resulting from their actions amounted to seventeen.
