Storyline: "The Manhattan Project" is a 1986 Si-Fi film that tells the story of Paul Stephens, a brilliant high school student who becomes fascinated with science and technology. The Manhattan Project Trivia
- The science fair scenes in the movie featured actual NYC middle school students and their science projects, which were submitted to the NYC borough-wide science fair. These scenes were filmed over three days at the Penta Hotel in NYC on 33rd St.
- Dr. Mathewson's line, "fellow sons of bitches," references original Manhattan Project scientist Kenneth Bainbridge. After the first successful test explosion of an atomic bomb on July 16, 1945, Bainbridge said to fellow project scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer, "Now we are all sons of bitches."
- During the scene where the bomb flashtube wires are being cut, the timer reads 7:16:45, which was the day of the first atomic bomb test.
- Roland, Paul's science class nemesis, invented the Internet as his science fair project. This movie was made ten years before the Internet reached widespread public notoriety.
- Paul's mom was reading a book she described as "just another novel" early in the movie. Later, when a helicopter arrives over the house, the book is revealed to be "The Fourth Protocol" by Frederick Forsyth, which involves a compact nuclear weapon.
