Trivia

Sigourney Weaver expressed her motivation for taking on the role of the "Evil Queen" in this film, highlighting her curiosity about why the King would marry such a cruel and murderous woman. Weaver wanted to portray a stepmother who had the best intentions of being a mother, aiming to provide a deeper understanding of the character beyond mere unpleasantness. Lilli's medical condition resulting from the poisoned apple is referred to as "locked-in syndrome." This condition leaves her conscious and aware but unable to communicate or move, except for her eyes. Claudia describes it as being trapped within the mind, where no breath or tears can escape, creating a state of apparent death but with eternal remembrance. Initially, the role of Lilli Hoffman, also known as Snow White, was envisioned with Alicia Silverstone in mind, indicating that the character was tailored to fit Silverstone's potential portrayal. While originally intended for theatrical release, the film ultimately premiered on Showtime in the United States, marking a change in its distribution plans. This film stands as a unique instance where Sigourney Weaver specifically chose a project to play a particular character, the wicked stepmother, emphasizing her desire to take on this specific role. The large oak cabinet that houses the mirror in the film was crafted in Suffolk, England. Master Carver Nick Webb meticulously carved the figures on the cabinet doors, featuring hands intertwined when closed, adding an intricate and artistic touch to the set design.
