- Littlefoot mentions his mother, who died in the first film, describing how she's always with him while singing "Always There."
- Anndi McAfee, who took over as the voice of Cera, had previously voiced Amber the Corythosaurus in "Dink, the Little Dinosaur" (1989), another animated series about young dinosaurs. She also happens to be the older sister of Scott McAfee, who voiced Littlefoot in the three previous films in the series.
- At the beginning of the film, during an argument over who gets the tree star, Cera reveals that she's the oldest of the group. However, technically, Ducky is the oldest in the group, as she was the first one to be seen hatching in the first film, before Cera, Littlefoot, and Spike. Petrie's hatching was never shown.
- The shark that attacks Littlefoot, Cera, Ducky, Petrie, and Spike is not a megalodon, as some fans think, but actually a cretoxyrhina.
- This is the first film in the series in which Anndi McAfee voices Cera, and Aria Noelle Curzon voices Ducky. It's also the only film in which Brandon LaCroix plays Littlefoot, and the first in which Thomas Dekker provides the singing voice for Littlefoot.
- In this film, the rarely seen character Mr. Clubtail is voiced by Jeff Bennett, whereas Rob Paulsen voiced him in the other films in which he appeared.
