Anything Else Trivia
- The movie is loosely based on Woody Allen's own experiences as a young comedy writer who married at a young age and met an older man who taught him about life, comedy, and philosophy (and who was institutionalized).
- During filming, Woody Allen mistook Jason Biggs for a Jewish actor, and started talking to him about Rosh Hashanah. Biggs, who is Catholic, didn't know how to respond, leading Allen to express his surprise, saying that he thought Biggs was Jewish after seeing him in American Pie (1999).
- In one scene, Jerry refers to a very funny comedian who wrote "Never Trust A Naked Bus Driver," a reference to Jack Douglas, who also wrote "My Brother Was An Only Child."
- Jason Biggs worked on this movie during the day and performed in the stage adaptation of "The Graduate" opposite Kathleen Turner on Broadway in the evenings.
- The movie opened the 60th Venice Film Festival, and Woody Allen made a rare public appearance at the opening gala.
- Carlo Di Palma, Allen's former cinematographer, planned to come out of retirement to work on the movie. However, he failed his physical exam, and the studio would not insure him, so he was unable to shoot the film. He died two years later.
- In a Sky Movies interview prior to the release of Inglorious Bastards (2009), Quentin Tarantino named this film as one of his top 20 favorite movies from 1992 to 2009.
- This is the second movie directed by Woody Allen that was filmed in 2:35:1, with the first being Manhattan (1979).
- Woody Allen has admitted that he likes the movie and enjoyed working with Jason Biggs, Christina Ricci, and Stockard Channing.
- The joke that Woody Allen tells about the prize fighter in the boxing ring was also used in Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989).
- In a scene where Jerry and Amanda reminisce about when they met, Jerry mentions the time "when we checked into that hotel as S. and Z. Fitzgerald," which is a reference to the fact that Christina Ricci played Zelda Fitzgerald in Z: The Beginning of Everything (2015).
