Tenoch Huerta, who played the ruler of an underwater kingdom in the movie, initially did not know how to swim. When director Ryan Coogler offered him the role and asked about his swimming skills, Huerta responded that he had never drowned before. In preparation for the role, Huerta took swimming lessons.
To pay tribute to Chadwick Boseman after his passing, the Marvel Studios intro for this movie features only Boseman as T'Challa and is the first MCU intro with no music.
