- In 2017, when the film was first announced, Jordan Peele was offered the opportunity to direct, but he declined, stating that he was not a fan of superhero movies and did not want to take the opportunity away from a director who was more passionate about them.
- Initially, Black Adam was set to appear in "Shazam!" (2019), but it was later decided that he would debut in his own film.
- Dwayne Johnson asked his fans to choose which character he should play, either the superhero Shazam or the supervillain Black Adam. His fans ultimately chose Black Adam.
- While both Black Adam and Captain Marvel speak the name of the wizard Shazam as an acronym to activate their powers, the acronym stands for different things for each character. - The film originally received an R rating due to several graphic death scenes, but these had to be cut in order for the film to receive the more commercially viable PG-13 rating.
