Storyline:   "The Naked Face" is a mystery thriller film released in 1984 that follows the story of a Chicago psychiatrist named Judd Stevens, who becomes embroiled in a dangerous game of cat and mouse with a deranged killer. After one of his patients is found murdered, Stevens is pulled into the investigation by Detective Angeli, who believes that the killer may have been one of Stevens' patients. As the body count rises and the clues become more and more confusing, Stevens finds himself the prime suspect in the eyes of both the police and the killer.

As he struggles to clear his name and find the true culprit, Stevens discovers that the killer may have a personal vendetta against him, and that his life may be in danger. He must use all his training and expertise to outwit the killer and stay alive.   1. Rod Steiger had recently undergone plastic surgery to hide his age, which required the make-up team to work around his wounds when he arrived on-set.
  2. Despite being on schedule and under budget, The Cannon Group, Inc. and the production manager cut several weeks from filming and a significant portion of the budget due to the poor performance of their previous movies.
  3. Rod Steiger was cast as Police Lieutenant McGreary because of his award-winning role in In the Heat of the Night (1967) as Police Chief Bill Gillespie.
  4. The Cannon Group, Inc. wanted to make a movie with Sir Roger Moore, who convinced them to back this adaptation of Sidney Sheldon's 1970 novel. The film was made in Chicago with local theater actors and two of Moore's friends, writer and director Bryan Forbes and actor David Hedison.
  5. Production went smoothly under the direction of Bryan Forbes, but when Moore took a week off to visit his ill mother, the producers criticized Forbes for his kindness, leading to mistreatment of the cast and crew by the studio.
  6. Sir Roger Moore made this movie between Octopussy (1983) and A View to a Kill (1985), his final two James Bond movies, and it was the last feature film Forbes directed.
  7. The story used an early form of psychological profiling, predating its use in forensic investigations.
