- At the time of its release, this film was the highest-grossing of Brad Pitt's career.
- While the Israeli Military Intelligence Directorate does have an office dedicated to exploring alternative assumptions and worst-case scenarios in order to prevent "group think" in intelligence assessments, it is not called the 10th Man Doctrine.
- Director Marc Forster has stated that he prefers the extended, unrated cut of the film, as it adds to the overall intensity in addition to including more blood and gore. Forster has said that while he is proud of the theatrical version, he felt somewhat "handcuffed" in his ability to deliver the toned-down PG-13-rated version.
- The nuclear detonation that Brad Pitt observes from the aircraft after departing South Korea is actually stock footage of the Crossroads Baker nuclear test, which was conducted by the United States at Bikini Atoll in July 1946.
- Brad Pitt has stated that his involvement in the film was motivated by a desire to make a movie that his children could see before they turned 18 and that they would enjoy, adding that they are fans of zombie movies.
- Before attempting to enter B-Wing, Lane and Segen are given the choice between an axe or a baseball bat and are told "there are merits to each." This is an in-joke reference to a section of Max Brooks' "Zombie Survival Guide" (the book that preceded "World War Z"), which discusses the best weapons to use when fighting zombies. In the book, both the axe and the baseball bat are considered superior to the gun, which Segen also takes as a backup.
